14th July Newcastle All British Day Jaguar Drivers Club Hunter
Newcastle All British Day 2018

A beautiful winter’s day greeted British car owners for the 2018 Newcastle All British Day organized by the Jaguar Drivers Club Hunter region and held on the for shore of the Hunter River, Newcastle. Road works (or was it light rail works), made for an interesting trip to the venue as Hunter Street, Newcastle was closed to traffic. A smaller number of British car than in past years turned out for the day. As you would expect a good number of Jaguars were in attendance but a good mix of British cars were on display, everything from Old Land Rovers to modern Jaguars, and everything in between kept the crowd entertained.

Yellow Duck Motorsport was represented by a Triumph MK I Sedan parked amongst the Triumph Sports Owners Association Display.

The Newcastle All British Day is well worth a look if you are interested in British cars, held in July each year.

12th August Shannons Day Eastern Creek
Shannon’s Day 2018
The Shannon’s Eastern Creek Classic is a classic car display day held annually at Eastern Creek Raceway.  Blue skies greeted a very large number of classic cars and car enthusiasts to Eastern Creek for this year’s event all be it with a cool breeze blowing from the west. The event has just about outgrown the venue with cars parked in the pits, on the skidpan, the driver-training track as well as the pits for the south circuit and under the grand stand. A good cross section of cars, everything from vintage to modern, race cars to concourse cars were on display. Each club enjoyed a parade lap of the circuit or you could see the track from old double decker buses that were kept busy touring the circuit all day. If you are a classic car enthusiast this event is a must see. Yellow Duck Motorsport was represented by the Rally Dolly parked with the Triumph Sports Owners Ass.

Heart of the Hunter 2018

It’s August and that means its time for the Australian Historic Rally Groups Heart of the Hunter rally. Just on forty classic cars assembled at Freemans Waterholes for the start of this year’s event on a cold windy winter’s day. A good cross section of automotive history lined up for the start, cars from the Europeans, Fiat, Alfa, BMW, Volvo, Peugeot, cars from Japan, Datsun, Mazda, Toyota, Subaru, and even cars from America, Mustang, corvette, but only one British car (Jaguar) except for Yellow Duck Motorsports Dolomite Sprint being driven by Jim Pope on official and film making duties.

The event got under way just after 9.30 with competitors leaving at two minute. The route took cars through Wakefield, Barnsley, Mulbring, Ellalong, Paxton, Branxton, and on to the lunch break at Pokolbin. After lunch, the event took competitorsalong some great roads of the Hunter Valley before finishing at the Potters Brewery just north of Cessnock.

As always a great event and a great time was had by everyone.

25th 26th August MG Rally MG Car Club
MG Rally 2018

A good size field of competitors assembled at Mangrove Mountain for the start of this year’s MG Rally, a two-day event held in the Hunter Valley. This event has a rich history, first run in 1993 (I think) when it started in Parramatta and headed south to an overnight at Goulburn before returning. The 1994 event started at Mangrove Mountain just over the road from this year’s event start.

9th September All Triumph Race Eastern Creek

A small field of competitors were entered in the 2018 All Triumph Race, that number was reduced further by mechanical problems to some of the cars, leaving only seven starters for the Sunday race.

The field was made up of, three TR7 V8’s, one TR7, two TR6’s and a TR3a.

The race had its drama with Sue Tahir spinning on the first lap and Elliot Wright also spinning out of first place, dropping him down to third, he then had a major mechanical problem resulting in smoke escaping while going through turn one.

23rd September Sydney All British Day

Another year and another All British Day. The event was moved to September this year in an attempt to get away from the wet weather that has been a problem in recent years. The All British Day seems to just get bigger each year, now covering all the sports field at Kings School. Just about all makes and models were represented from the big end of town like Rolls Royce and Jaguar to the small end of town like Morris and Austen and everything in between. If you are interested in Classic British cars, this event is worth a look.
