Consequences. (a short story)
Chapter Four.
The next day was a Saturday and Gary was at home looking after the necessaries of life, washing, house work and mowing the lawn, when there was a knock at the door. He was deep into cleaning the bath room at the time so he made his way to the door with rubber gloves on, expecting a visit from Seven Day Adventists, which was a regular occurrence on Saturdays.
But no, it was the Police, three of them, two well dressed female officers and an older uniformed male officer.
“What can I do for you officers?” asked Gary.
“Can we come in?” asked one of the female officers.
“My goodness, don’t any of you guys follow your training, except for when you are tasering people. Introduce yourselves and tell me what you want before asking to come in,” said Gary.
“I’m Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones, this is Detective Constable Jenifer Harris,” said Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones.
“I’m Sergeant Mathew Kerby,” said the older uniformed officer.
“ID’s,” asked Gary.
All three of them showed Gary their ID’s, as Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones again asked, “can we come in?”
“Of course, come in, go straight through,” said Gary, as he pointed towards the dining room table.
“Take a seat, make yourself comfortable, would you like a cup of tea?” asked Gary.
“No thanks,” said Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones.
“What can I do for you?” asked Gary.
“We are here to take your statement,” said Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones.
Gary just looked at her for a moment before saying, “you must of missed that day at training, the day relating to proper procedure, may be you were of sick, you are suppose to ask me if, I would like to give a statement.”
“It is your civic reasonability,” said Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones.
“Not that old chestnut, how did you get to your rank without even the most basic knowledge of proper procedure? As a public servant, you are not suppose to express your person opinion, and anyway, I did my civic responsibility by taking out the gun man yesterday,” said Gary
“And that was a very irresponsible thing to do, people could of been killed,” said Detective Sergeant Kerry Jones.
“My goodness, you can’t help yourself, that or you just don’t understand your responsibilities, again, you as a public servant are not suppose to express your own option,” replied Gary, before adding, “and you wonder why I don’t want to talk to you, such unprofessional behaviour.”
“All we want is to get your side of the story,” said Detective Constable Jenifer Harris.
“To late, your boss here, put an end to that, I would like you to leave now,” replied Gary.
The three Police officers reluctantly left without saying anything more as Gary closed the door behind them.
As they walked along the path from Gary’s front door to the foot path, Sergeant Mathew Kerby said, “you handled that well.”
