Dolomite Sprint Race

My tenth Car – Track Dolly

The year was 1996 or was it 1997, there abouts, give or take, I was living with my Old Man at Lane Cove, and I saw an add in the Trading Post (my goodness the Trading Post has a lot to answer for) for a Triumph Dolomite Sprint Rally car. It was located at Hornsby and it was cheap, so we went and had a look, it was a bit rough but who cares, I bought it. The owner delivered it to Lane Cove the next night, and just like that I had another car. Other than removing the sign writing, I didn’t do much to it, it just sat around, we moved and then twelve months later we moved again, to the Central Coast.

We had a nice big shed at our new place, so the cars were out of the weather and it was nice to have a good clean work shop to work in. I did start doing a few things the Dolly, fitting parts that had come out of the Rally Dolly, I fitted some big flairs, front and rear spoilers and some wide wheel, it really started to look the business. Way back in time, I attended TAFE full time, doing a Horticulture course at Ryde, it was when I had the Cooper S. I use to go to Ron Hodgson’s (car dealer) at Parramatta for parts and I remember seeing a Dolly Sprint there with the big flairs etc, and I remember thinking, “Orr look at that.” But I never thought I would own one but I eventually did. I did not finish the course as it was not really was I thought it was going to be. I was a country boy, Horticulture for me was growing, wheat, corn, oranges, bananas, etc, but Horticulture is growing flowers, gardening. I wanted to be a farmer not a gardener.

The Track Dolly spent a lot of time sitting around in the shed, I only took it to two events, sometime around 2010 or 2011 I competed in a Hillclimb at Ringwood and then not long after I ran it at a Super Sprint at Eastern Creek. It was great around Eastern Creek, lots of grip, far better than the Rally Dolly. Looking back I should of used it more often, but I didn’t, I had too many cars and my money and time were spread too thin. Video of Ringwood and Eastern Creek are both on You Tube.

I sold the track Dolly when the big down size came along, I had to do it, but it was a sad day when it went. For video of this car go to links, then motorsport or old motorsport. Tune in same duck time, same duck channel, for more adventures with cars.
